Hi, Steve. I suppose I’m one of your successors at Pacific, and I wanted to reach out after reading one of your old stories this week.
We were talking about the Marsh fire, which I was thinking about writing about for the magazine, and Joyce Gabriel found the magazine story you wrote on the subject. I was blown away by how detailed and vivid it was; how much great reporting you did to make it so compelling.
I threw up my hands and said ‘Never mind. I’m not going to attempt to re-report this. It’s been done quite well already.’
Anyway, I figured it’s never too late to compliment a writer on his work. That was a good one.
